The Minister of National Defence announced that Base Petawawa would host Canada's new fleet of 15 Chinook helicopters. This will add 440 new jobs to base, and about $20 million to the local economy.
CFB Petawawa will see various infrastructure projects over the next few years to accommodate the new helicopters. The projects will include the construction of new hangars that will incorporate training, maintenance, operational storage and logistics facilities. A new ramp, refuelling facility, and a fenced-in parking area will also be constructed.
