Chalk River River, September 28, 2009 – AECL’s Chalk River Laboratories are hosting 40 potential new hires this week as it conducts a two-day hiring campaign. The campaign is promoted by Human Resource Services and is taking place at AECL’s Chalk River and Deep River offices in an ongoing effort to recruit new and experienced candidates to AECL’s Research & Technology Operations (RTO) division.

About AECL

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited is a full service nuclear technology company providing services to nuclear utilities around the world. Established in 1952, AECL is the designer and builder of CANDU technology including the CANDU 6, one of the world's top-performing reactors. AECL's 5000 employees deliver cutting edge nuclear services, R&D support, design, and engineering, construction management, specialized technology, refurbishment, waste management and decommissioning in support of CANDU reactor products.

The 40 candidates are experienced engineers, technologists and scientists. Over the next two days, they will participate in interviews, tour CRL facilities, as well as meet with senior AECL managers and community representatives. .

"This hiring campaign will help to fill the more than 250 positions that we currently have available at CRL", explained Monica MacIsaac, Director of HR Operations. "Candidates who attend Monday and Tuesday’s campaign will have the opportunity to network one-on-one with managers who are hiring as well as learn about what work is performed at CRL."

On Monday evening, members of CRL’s nuclear leadership team and managers will meet with candidates for dinner. Community Economic Development Officers from Petawawa and Deep River will also be on hand to talk about living in the Ottawa Valley. Shelley Rolland, CRL Community Affairs Officer explains, "Having members of the community on hand to help answer questions is important as we know that potential recruits aren’t just choosing a job when they come to work at AECL, they are also choosing a lifestyle. Living in the Ottawa Valley provides great opportunities for people to live in family-oriented communities with great access to the outdoors."
